ZZ The SARAG story so far

SARAG (Sheffield And Rotherham Asbestos Group) formed 1995.

A group of occupational health workers and trades union health & safety workers were concerned about the scale of asbestos use throughout the region. They identified a need for a local group to help victims of asbestos related disease.

Following packed public meetings in both Sheffield and Rotherham, SARAG was formed, and the work began. In the early days the work was carried out by volunteers, many of whom had themselves been affected by asbestos related diseases.

In 1999, funding was secured to expand the service, and in April 2000 SARAG became an official registered charity.

As the need for the service continued to grow, we have expanded to cover a larger area. Today SARAG provides services to the entire Yorkshire and Humberside region.
